What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on Ultratrail runners participating in the 106 km Castelló-Penyagolosa race, aiming to gather insights into their training habits, physical condition, and performance factors. The research involves data collection before, during, and after the race, including assessments of muscle damage, strength loss, and hydration levels. Blood and urine samples will be analyzed to track physiological changes and recovery processes. Additionally, the study will explore sex differences in performance and physiological responses among the runners.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 18-60 who have completed at least two races of 65 km or longer and are registered for the CSP 2025 race.
Not a fit: Patients with heart or kidney disease, or those taking ongoing medications, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of ultramarathon running and improve training and recovery strategies for athletes.
How similar studies have performed: While there is growing interest in the physiological impacts of ultramarathon events, this specific approach to studying athletes during the race is relatively novel.
