What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the challenges surrounding the disclosure of child sexual abuse (CSA) among adolescents receiving treatment in child and adolescent psychiatry services. By conducting semi-structured interviews with survivors, their parents, and mental health professionals, the study seeks to identify barriers to disclosure and improve support mechanisms. The findings will provide insights into how to enhance the efficacy of investigations and the quality of care for CSA survivors. This is the first study to specifically address these issues within child and adolescent psychiatric settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents and young adults aged 12-25 who have experienced child sexual abuse and are receiving psychiatric treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with acute psychiatric symptoms or those involved in intrafamily abuse situations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved support and treatment for survivors of child sexual abuse, ultimately enhancing their mental health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this study addresses a novel area of inquiry, previous research has highlighted the importance of understanding disclosure barriers in similar contexts, suggesting potential for impactful findings.
