Understanding rare eye diseases
Structural and Functional Characterization of Rare Ocular Diseases
This study is trying to learn more about rare eye diseases that affect vision, like Retinitis Pigmentosa and Stargardt Disease, by looking at how they develop over time in people who have them.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on rare ocular diseases that affect the posterior segment of the eye, particularly inherited retinal degenerations. It aims to characterize the structural and functional aspects of conditions such as Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stargardt Disease 1, Best Disease, Pattern Dystrophy of Macula, and Choroideremia. By examining the natural history of these diseases, the study seeks to gather valuable data that could inform future treatment approaches. Participants will undergo various ophthalmic exams to assess their conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older diagnosed with a rare ocular disease affecting the posterior segment.
Not a fit: Patients with other concurrent posterior segment disorders or those currently involved in other ocular clinical trials may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of rare ocular diseases and pave the way for future therapeutic interventions.
How similar studies have performed: While the study focuses on rare diseases, similar observational studies have previously contributed to advancements in understanding and treating ocular conditions.
