What this trial studies
This observational study investigates how baseline psychological measures and pain sensitivity can predict changes in physical function over one year in patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. Participants will be assessed using the WOMAC pain subscale to evaluate their pain levels and functional capabilities. The study aims to identify potential psychological and pain-related predictors that could inform treatment strategies for knee osteoarthritis. By focusing on these factors, the research seeks to enhance understanding of the interplay between mental health and physical function in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 40 and above with a physician diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis and experiencing knee pain on most days.
Not a fit: Patients with inflammatory arthritis, recent knee injuries or surgeries, or severe comorbidities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies that address both psychological and physical aspects of knee osteoarthritis.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, previous studies have indicated that psychological factors can influence outcomes in osteoarthritis, suggesting potential for success.
