What this trial studies
This study investigates how patients' expectations about treatment outcomes influence their experiences with post-Lyme symptoms after being treated for early Lyme disease, specifically erythema migrans. Patients will complete a questionnaire to quantify their pretreatment expectations, which will then be correlated with their treatment outcomes. Additionally, the study will compare the prevalence of nonspecific symptoms in these patients to age-matched controls who do not have a history of Lyme disease.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with erythema migrans due to early Lyme disease.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, lactating, immunocompromised, or have recently taken antibiotics with antiborrelial activity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help tailor treatment approaches based on patient expectations, potentially improving outcomes for those with Lyme disease.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies have explored the impact of patient expectations on treatment outcomes in other conditions, showing promising results.
