Understanding molecular signatures in complex regional pain syndrome
Spatially Resolved Transcriptomics Reveals Phenotype-specific Molecular Signatures in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify phenotype-specific molecular signatures in patients diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Participants aged 19 to 80 will undergo a skin punch biopsy on both the affected and unaffected limbs. The study utilizes spatial transcriptomics to analyze immune cell signatures and differentially regulated genes in various skin components, including the epidermis and nerve plexus. The goal is to enhance understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms of CRPS.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 19 to 80 who meet the Budapest diagnostic criteria for CRPS and exhibit sensory, vasomotor, and sudomotor changes.
Not a fit: Patients who do not consent to participate or have contraindications for skin punch biopsy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients with complex regional pain syndrome.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in the field, this specific approach using spatial transcriptomics in CRPS is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
