What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the characteristics and evolution of illness awareness in patients with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. It will involve translating and culturally adapting a specific assessment tool to Spanish, followed by individual clinical interviews and self-reports over a period of nine months. Participants will be recruited from the Eating Disorders Units of two hospitals in Barcelona, focusing on the relationship between illness awareness and various clinical, cognitive, and psychosocial variables.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include Spanish or Catalan-speaking females aged 18 to 65 with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.

Not a fit: Patients with comorbid neurological disorders or those requiring hospitalization may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of illness awareness in eating disorders, potentially leading to improved treatment approaches.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been limited longitudinal studies on this topic, the approach taken in this study is relatively novel and aims to fill gaps in existing research.
