Understanding how well beta thalassemia patients follow oral chelation therapy
Adherence of Beta Thalssemia Patients to Oral Chelation Therapy

What this trial studies
This study investigates the adherence of patients with beta thalassemia to oral chelation therapy, specifically focusing on those receiving regular blood transfusions. It aims to assess the serum ferritin levels in patients aged 2 to 18 years who have been prescribed deferasirox for at least one year. The study will help identify factors influencing adherence to treatment and the implications for managing beta thalassemia effectively. By understanding patient compliance, the research seeks to improve treatment outcomes for this chronic condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents aged 2 to 18 years with a confirmed diagnosis of beta thalassemia major or intermedia who receive regular blood transfusions.
Not a fit: Patients who are younger than 2 years or older than 18 years, or those with blood transfusions due to conditions other than beta thalassemia, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for beta thalassemia patients, enhancing their quality of life and treatment outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be limited studies specifically on adherence to oral chelation therapy in beta thalassemia, similar approaches in chronic disease management have shown promise in improving patient outcomes.
