What this trial studies

This project investigates the mechanisms of visual space perception, specifically focusing on how individuals judge distances of objects in the intermediate range of 2 to 25 meters during self-motion. It aims to uncover the complexities involved in distance judgment that are crucial for daily activities like walking and driving. By utilizing visual stimuli, the study will explore how the visual system processes information while navigating through a 3D environment. The findings could enhance our understanding of how visual and neurological impairments affect mobility and wayfinding.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults and children aged 18 to 40 with normal or corrected-to-normal visual acuity.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of visual and eye diseases or physical movement restrictions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved strategies for helping individuals with visual impairments navigate their environments more effectively.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on intermediate distance space perception during self-motion, studies on visual perception have shown promising results in understanding related mechanisms.
