Understanding how patients perceive their cardiovascular risk
Patient-Perceived Versus Actual Risk of Cardiovascular Disease and Willingness to Follow Recommendations for Cardiovascular Prevention
This study looks at how well people in China understand their risk of heart disease compared to their actual risk, and how this affects their willingness to follow heart health advice.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to compare patient-perceived atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk with actual risk in a Chinese population. It will assess how accurately patients estimate their risk relative to their peers and explore the implications of these perceptions on their willingness to follow recommended cardiovascular prevention guidelines, including lipid-lowering therapy. The study will involve participants aged 40 and above who consent to complete a questionnaire and have a lipid profile within the last year.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 40 years and older who are willing to complete a questionnaire and have had a lipid profile test within the past year.
Not a fit: Patients with known atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or other chronic illnesses with a life expectancy of less than 12 months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance patient engagement in cardiovascular health management by improving understanding of risk perception.
How similar studies have performed: While research has focused on refining CV risk calculators, this study's specific focus on patient perception of risk is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
