What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to explore the impact of memory and attention on vocabulary acquisition in children with developmental language disorder (DLD) compared to typically developing peers. The study will assess how linguistic long-term memory and attention influence short-term memory retention of new verbal information. It will involve various tasks, including syllable repetition and word order comprehension, to evaluate the role of prosody and grammar in memory accuracy. The research seeks to understand the broader implications of short-term memory challenges on language development.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children diagnosed with developmental language disorder or those with typical language development.
Not a fit: Patients who have not been exposed to English since birth or have other neurodevelopmental conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved strategies for helping children with developmental language disorder enhance their vocabulary learning.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in understanding the relationship between memory and language acquisition, suggesting that this approach has potential for success.
