What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the environmental factors, or exposome, affecting severe asthmatic patients and their responses to biotherapies. By characterizing the mycobiota and other determinants of indoor air quality, the study seeks to identify individual components that influence asthma exacerbations and treatment efficacy. The ultimate goal is to tailor interventions based on these evaluations to improve patient outcomes and reduce asthma-related morbidity and mortality. The findings could pave the way for larger multicenter studies to validate these approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with severe 'T2-High' asthma who have been treated with biotherapy for over a year and are regularly monitored at the participating hospitals.
Not a fit: Patients who have not been treated with biotherapy or those with non-severe asthma will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized and effective asthma treatments, reducing the frequency of exacerbations and improving quality of life for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of analyzing the exposome in asthma is innovative, similar studies focusing on the impact of environmental factors on asthma management have shown promising results.
