Understanding how autonomic function affects low blood pressure in elderly patients during surgery
Correlation Between Perioperative Autonomic Function and Adverse Events Such as Post-induction Hypotension in Elderly Patients
This study is trying to see how the way the body controls blood pressure affects low blood pressure during surgery in older patients.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the relationship between preoperative cardiovascular autonomic function and the occurrence of post-induction hypotension (PIH) in elderly patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective non-cardiac surgery. Researchers will measure baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) and heart rate variability (HRV) to assess autonomic function before surgery. The primary outcome will focus on the incidence of PIH, while secondary outcomes will include early intraoperative hypotension, postoperative complications, and 30-day mortality rates. The study seeks to quantify risk factors associated with PIH in this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients aged 65 and older who are scheduled for elective non-cardiac surgery under general anesthesia.
Not a fit: Patients with severe vascular disease, secondary hypertension, or those unable to cooperate due to mental abnormalities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for preventing hypotension in elderly surgical patients.
How similar studies have performed: While studies on autonomic function and hypotension exist, this specific approach focusing on elderly patients and PIH is relatively novel.
