What this trial studies
The FATE Study aims to investigate heart failure and frailty in patients over 65 years of age who are hospitalized for acute heart failure. This observational study is part of a broader initiative by the Italian Ministry of Health to enhance research on cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors. By collecting clinical data and biological materials, the study seeks to identify prognostic and predictive factors that could improve patient outcomes and inform prevention strategies. The focus is on understanding the complexities of heart failure in older adults, a group often underrepresented in clinical trials.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged over 65 who have been hospitalized for acute heart failure.
Not a fit: Patients with significant valvular pathology, malignant neoplasms, or active infectious diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management and prevention strategies for heart failure in elderly patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on heart failure in elderly populations have shown promising results, but this specific approach is novel in its comprehensive observational design.
