Understanding heart disease risks in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes
Defining Inflammatory Biomarkers of Cardiovascular Disease in Patients With Myelodysplastic Syndromes

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate why individuals with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are at a higher risk for cardiovascular issues such as heart disease and stroke. Researchers will monitor patients over a period of six months, collecting blood samples to analyze inflammatory markers that may predict heart problems. Participants will provide blood samples during routine visits, allowing researchers to gather data without requiring additional appointments. The goal is to enhance understanding of the relationship between inflammation and cardiovascular health in MDS patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndromes.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone hematopoietic stem cell transplantation within the last six months or have a diagnosis of MDS with excess blasts 2 will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved methods for detecting and managing heart disease risks in patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a specific population, similar studies investigating inflammatory markers in cardiovascular disease have shown promising results.
