Understanding gait control in Parkinson's disease

Flexible Control of Gait in Parkinson Disease: Effect of Task Instruction on the Exploitation of Redundancy in Speed Control.

Université Catholique de Louvain · NCT05908279

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate how gait patterns in individuals with Parkinson's disease differ from those in healthy individuals. Researchers will measure gait transitions while participants walk to a metronome and without it, allowing for comparisons between the two groups. The study will utilize statistical and computational modeling to analyze these differences and explore the potential link between gait control and freezing episodes in Parkinson's patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who can walk for 20 minutes and do not have other neurological disorders.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to walk for 20 minutes or have other neurological disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of gait issues in Parkinson's disease, potentially reducing freezing episodes.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing research on gait in Parkinson's disease, this specific approach of using statistical modeling to link gait control with freezing episodes is relatively novel.
