What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify behavioral and cognitive factors that may predict opioid misuse and disability in individuals suffering from chronic lower back pain. It will utilize patient-reported surveys and cognitive testing to assess impulsivity, inhibitory control, drug choice, and cognitive distortions. The study will analyze correlations between these factors and the risk of opioid misuse, with primary outcomes including specific scores related to opioid misuse and pain interference. Participants will be protected by a Certificate of Confidentiality to ensure their privacy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with a diagnosis of chronic lower back pain who are not pregnant.
Not a fit: Patients suffering from cancer pain will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of opioid misuse in chronic pain patients, ultimately improving patient care.
How similar studies have performed: While this study explores behavioral and cognitive predictors in a specific context, similar studies have shown promise in understanding opioid misuse in chronic pain populations.
