What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients undergoing Lewis-Santy oesophagectomy, a complex surgical procedure with significant perioperative risks, particularly for those who are malnourished. It aims to assess the dynamics of energy expenditure during the perioperative period to improve nutritional management protocols. By evaluating patients' energy requirements and nutritional support strategies, the study seeks to enhance individualized perioperative care. The findings could lead to better outcomes for patients by optimizing their nutritional status before and after surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adult patients scheduled for Lewis-Santy oesophagectomy who will require intensive care post-surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are minors, pregnant women, or those with contraindications to indirect calorimetry will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved nutritional protocols that enhance recovery and reduce complications for oesophagectomy patients.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored nutritional management in surgical patients, this specific approach to energy expenditure in oesophagectomy patients is relatively novel.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * Any adult patient admitted for scheduled digestive surgery for Lewis Santy oesophagectomy whose care pathway includes a stay in an intensive care unit or continuing care unit. * Member or beneficiary of a social protection scheme * Patient who has read and understood the information letter and does not object to taking part in the study. Exclusion Criteria: * Contraindication to indirect calorimetry (oxygen therapy, etc.) * Refusal to take part in the study * No social security affiliation * Patient is a minor * Patient under legal protection (guardianship) * Pregnant women * Oesophagectomy with cervical approach (3-way oesophagectomy) * Participation in an interventional research protocol likely to have an effect on perioperative nutritional status or surgical technique
