What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify the frequency and causes of diarrhea among Australian adult tourists traveling to various Southeast Asian countries. Participants will be monitored for their health during their trip, with a focus on collecting data that will help inform future clinical trials for interventions targeting travelers' diarrhea. The study will utilize a TAQMan Array Card for analysis, providing insights into the epidemiology of the condition in this specific population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Australian adults over 18 years old who plan to travel to Southeast Asia for 14 to 28 days within the next month.
Not a fit: Patients who are not planning to travel to the specified Southeast Asian countries or who cannot provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and treatment strategies for travelers' diarrhea in Australian tourists.
How similar studies have performed: While this study focuses on a specific population, similar studies have successfully identified causes of travelers' diarrhea, suggesting potential for valuable findings.
