What this trial studies

This observational study aims to determine how common steroid-induced diabetes mellitus (SDM) is among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to identify the risk factors associated with its development. A total of 120 SLE patients receiving corticosteroid therapy will be recruited from the SLE and Rheumatology Clinic. Participants will undergo a thorough medical history review, clinical examination, and laboratory tests to assess their blood glucose levels and other relevant health indicators. The study will include both new and existing cases of SDM among these patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are SLE patients aged 18-75 who are currently receiving corticosteroid therapy.

Not a fit: Patients with SLE who are not on corticosteroid therapy or those with other types of diabetes mellitus may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify at-risk SLE patients and improve management strategies for steroid-induced diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on diabetes in SLE patients, the specific focus on steroid-induced diabetes is less common, making this approach somewhat novel.
