What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the incidence of chronic pain in patients who have undergone thoracotomy, a common surgical procedure in thoracic surgery. It aims to analyze the symptoms of chronic pain at 3 and 6 months post-surgery, considering factors such as postoperative analgesia, operation time, and duration of chest tube stay. By examining these variables, the study seeks to understand how acute postoperative pain may lead to chronic pain and affect patients' quality of life.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 65 who are undergoing elective thoracotomy and have a physical status classified as I, II, or III by the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Not a fit: Patients with advanced cancer, a history of chronic analgesic therapy, previous thoracic surgery, or those operated under emergency conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for patients undergoing thoracotomy, enhancing their recovery and quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: While the study focuses on chronic pain post-thoracotomy, similar studies have indicated that understanding postoperative pain can lead to better management practices, suggesting potential for success.
