What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the incidence of chronic pain in patients who have undergone thoracic surgery, specifically thoracotomy and video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS). It will assess the symptoms of chronic pain at 3 and 6 months postoperatively, focusing on how acute postoperative pain may lead to chronic pain and affect patients' quality of life. The study will include patients aged 18 to 65 who are undergoing elective thoracic surgery and will exclude those with advanced cancer or a history of chronic analgesic therapy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 65 who are scheduled for elective thoracic surgery.
Not a fit: Patients with advanced cancer or those who have had previous thoracic surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for patients undergoing thoracic surgery.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on postoperative pain, this specific focus on chronic pain following thoracic surgery is less common, making it a novel approach.
