What this trial studies
This observational study aims to determine the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) among children and adolescents diagnosed with Angelman syndrome. It will analyze various clinical variables, such as genetics, epilepsy, and parental stress, to differentiate between patients with and without ASD. Data will be collected through neuropsychological assessments, including cognitive development and social-communicative skills, during regular clinical follow-ups. The study seeks to provide insights into the relationship between Angelman syndrome and autism traits.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 4-15 years with a genetically confirmed diagnosis of Angelman syndrome.
Not a fit: Patients with pending genetic examination results, a mental age lower than 12 months, or those who have suffered brain injury during the peri- or postnatal period may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of autism traits in Angelman syndrome, leading to better tailored interventions for affected individuals.
How similar studies have performed: While studies on autism prevalence in various conditions exist, this specific focus on Angelman syndrome and its traits is relatively novel and underexplored.
