What this trial studies
This research investigates the fear of movement, known as kinesiophobia, in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The first year focuses on assessing the factors related to this fear and its impact on patient outcomes. In the second year, a comprehensive intervention combining exercise and cognitive-behavioral strategies will be developed and tested for its effectiveness on reducing fear and improving quality of life. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an intervention or control group, with data collected at multiple time points post-surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have undergone cardiac surgery and can communicate in Mandarin or Taiwanese.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, psychiatric disorders, or those who are long-term bedridden may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the recovery and quality of life for cardiac surgery patients by addressing their fears related to physical activity.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using multidimensional interventions to address kinesiophobia, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
