What this trial studies

This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided pelvic floor muscle training compared to standard care for urinary incontinence in men undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy. The study consists of two parts: a randomized controlled trial involving patients with weak pelvic floor muscle function and a comparison of physical function and quality of life between patients with varying pelvic floor muscle strength. Participants will be assessed for their ability to perform pelvic floor muscle contractions as part of the eligibility criteria.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are men aged 18 and older diagnosed with prostatic adenocarcinoma who are scheduled for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.

Not a fit: Patients who have urinary incontinence prior to surgery or those unable to perform the pelvic floor muscle test will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce urinary incontinence and improve quality of life for patients after prostate surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of ultrasound-guided training is novel, similar interventions have shown promise in improving pelvic floor function in other studies.
