Ultra-translucent multi-layer zirconia versus lithium disilicate laminate veneers for front teeth

Clinical Performance of Ultra-translucent Multi-layer Monolithic Zirconia and Lithium Disilicate Ceramic Laminate Veneers

Not applicable Interventional Cairo University · NCT07113873

What this trial studies

This randomized interventional trial will assign eligible adult patients to receive either ultra-translucent multi-layer monolithic zirconia or lithium disilicate ceramic laminate veneers and follow clinical performance and patient satisfaction over time. The protocol emphasizes minimally invasive enamel preparation for anterior teeth and standardized bonding procedures, with known bonding challenges for zirconia addressed using air abrasion and 10-MDP–based primers and cements. Outcomes include clinical performance measures and patient-reported satisfaction at scheduled follow-ups. Participants must meet oral health and enamel criteria and commit to clinic visits at Cairo University.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–50 with good oral and periodontal health, adequate enamel for bonding, no bruxism, and a clear cosmetic indication (diastema, mild discoloration, or minor shape/size changes) who can attend follow-up visits are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with poor oral hygiene, active periodontal disease, bruxism or other dysfunctional habits, high caries risk, insufficient enamel for bonding, or extreme dental staining are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help dentists choose a veneer material that gives better-looking, durable, minimally invasive restorations and clearer guidance on bonding protocols.

How similar studies have performed: Recent laboratory and short-term clinical reports suggest similar bond strength and acceptable esthetics for high-translucent zirconia and lithium disilicate when using air abrasion and 10-MDP primers, but long-term randomized comparisons are limited.
