What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the usability and effectiveness of the Tremor Retrainer smartphone application in patients diagnosed with functional tremor. Participants will undergo a one-week observation followed by a four-hour protocol using the app, with assessments conducted through in-person visits and televideo sessions. The study aims to determine if the app can improve symptoms of functional tremor and if the Simplified Functional Movement Disorder Rating Scale can be effectively administered via televideo. The trial will involve 20 subjects over a period of 3-4 months.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 10 years and older with a diagnosis of functional tremor affecting at least one arm.
Not a fit: Patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, or other involuntary movement disorders will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could provide a new, accessible tool for patients to manage their functional tremor symptoms.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of mobile health applications in managing movement disorders is emerging, this specific approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
