What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of combining fractional CO2 laser treatment with topical tioconazole compared to using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser alone for patients suffering from onychomycosis of the fingernail. The study will involve patients over 18 years of age, assessing various outcomes related to nail health and fungal infection clearance. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups to determine which method yields better results in treating this condition.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with any type of onychomycosis.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have localized bacterial infections around the nail, or have other nail diseases that could interfere with treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide a more effective and safer option for patients suffering from onychomycosis.

How similar studies have performed: While the combination of laser treatments with topical antifungals is a relatively novel approach, similar studies have shown promising results in treating fungal infections.
