Treatment for wide neck saccular cerebral aneurysms using endovascular techniques

Endovascular Treatment of Wide Neck Saccular Cerebral Aneurysms

Not applicable Interventional Sohag University · NCT05796986

What this trial studies

This clinical trial focuses on the endovascular treatment of wide neck saccular cerebral aneurysms, which are characterized by a neck diameter greater than 4 mm or a dome-to-neck ratio of less than 2. The procedure involves depositing detachable platinum coils into the aneurysm through a microcatheter to reduce blood flow and promote thrombus formation. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of this treatment approach for patients who have experienced spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage or have unruptured wide neck aneurysms. Despite advancements in endovascular techniques, treating wide-necked aneurysms remains challenging, and this trial seeks to address those challenges.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage due to ruptured wide neck saccular cerebral aneurysms or those with unruptured denovo wide neck saccular cerebral aneurysms.

Not a fit: Patients with other forms of cerebral aneurysms, such as fusiform or dissecting types, or those with complex aneurysms like giant or thrombosed aneurysms, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could significantly reduce the risk of rupture and improve outcomes for patients with wide neck saccular cerebral aneurysms.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown varying degrees of success with endovascular treatments for cerebral aneurysms, but the specific approach for wide neck saccular aneurysms remains a challenging area with ongoing research.
