What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on patients diagnosed with Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (R-CPD) syndrome, which is characterized by an inability to burp. The research involves patients treated at the University Hospitals of Strasbourg who received botulinum toxin injections into the cricopharyngeus muscle as a therapeutic intervention. The study aims to gather data on the effectiveness of this treatment approach and its impact on patients' symptoms. The diagnosis of R-CPD is clinical, and the study seeks to enhance understanding of this condition, which is relatively unknown in certain regions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with R-CPD and treated with botulinum toxin injections.
Not a fit: Patients who have not been diagnosed with R-CPD or have not received the specified treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective treatment options for patients suffering from R-CPD syndrome.
How similar studies have performed: While R-CPD is a relatively novel condition, the use of botulinum toxin for similar muscle dysfunctions has shown success in other studies.
