Treatment for gingival recession using a modified surgical technique
Recession Coverage Using Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel With Connective Tissue Graft and With or Without Enamel Matrix Derivative: Randomized Clinical Trial
This study is testing a new surgical method for treating gum recession in adults aged 18 to 45 to see which treatment combination works best for improving gum health and comfort.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of the modified coronally advanced tunnel (MCAT) technique for treating gingival recession in patients aged 18 to 45. Participants will be randomly assigned to three groups, each receiving different combinations of treatments: MCAT with subepithelial connective tissue graft, MCAT with enamel matrix derivative, or both. The study aims to assess short- and long-term outcomes, including root coverage success, aesthetic results, and patient comfort. Measurements will include gingival thickness and root coverage, using standardized periodontal assessment tools.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 to 45 with Miller Class I and II gingival recession and no prior surgical interventions in the affected areas.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic conditions affecting surgical outcomes or those who have undergone previous surgeries in the treatment areas may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the management of gingival recession, enhancing both functional and aesthetic outcomes for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there are limited studies on the MCAT technique, preliminary findings suggest potential benefits, indicating that this approach may be novel and underexplored.
Eligibility criteria
