What this trial studies
This pilot randomized controlled trial evaluates a culturally adapted Unified Protocol (UP) for treating adults with anxiety and/or depression. The study aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the UP, focusing on recruitment rates, treatment adherence, participant satisfaction, and treatment outcomes related to emotion regulation and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Approximately 50 adults will be recruited from mental health facilities and online platforms, with eligibility determined through standardized assessments. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive the UP treatment or a control condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and above suffering from moderate to severe anxiety and/or depressive disorders.
Not a fit: Patients at risk of suicide, with severe physical illnesses, or receiving concurrent psychotherapy or psychopharmacological treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this treatment could provide an effective, evidence-based approach for managing depression and anxiety in low-resource settings.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise with transdiagnostic approaches, suggesting potential for success in this novel adaptation.
