Training to reduce fall risks in older adults
The Immediate and Sustained Effect of 4-week Combined Volitional and Reactive Step Training in Reducing Falls Risk in Community-Dwelling Older Fallers: a Randomised Controlled Trial
NA · The Hong Kong Polytechnic University · NCT06378164
This study tests a 4-week exercise program to see if it can help older adults who have fallen before improve their balance and reduce their risk of falling again.

What this trial studies
This study examines the effects of a 4-week program that combines volitional and reactive step training to reduce the risk of falls among older adults who have previously experienced falls. Participants will engage in exercise interventions designed to improve their balance and reaction times. The study aims to assess both the immediate and long-term benefits of this training approach in a community setting. By focusing on older adults who can walk independently for short durations, the study seeks to provide targeted interventions for those at higher risk of falling.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling older adults who have a history of falls and can walk for at least one minute without assistance.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, blindness, neurological conditions, or other serious illnesses that limit their ability to participate in exercise training may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the incidence of falls among older adults, enhancing their safety and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using exercise interventions to reduce fall risks in older adults, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
