What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the feasibility of slip recovery training, a novel exercise regimen designed to enhance balance recovery after slips, among workers at increased risk of falls. Participants will engage in 3-6 weekly training sessions and report any falls experienced during a 12-week follow-up period. The study aims to validate field assessments for measuring the effectiveness of this training in real-world settings, particularly in collaboration with industrial partners. Focus group discussions will also be conducted to gather insights on the long-term feasibility of the training.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include Virginia Tech workers in specific departments and Veolia field workers aged 18-65 who are willing to participate in the training and follow-up.
Not a fit: Patients who weigh over 250 pounds or do not meet the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire criteria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this training could significantly reduce the incidence of slip-induced falls among workers, enhancing workplace safety.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel, similar balance training interventions have shown promise in reducing fall risks in other populations.
