What this trial studies
This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of self-administered dual-task training (sDTT) to prevent falls among older adults in Hong Kong. The study will involve a multi-centre randomized controlled trial where participants will engage in dual-task exercises designed to improve both physical and cognitive functions. Following the trial, workshops will be held to promote the technique among older adults and healthcare workers. The primary outcome will be the number of falls recorded at various intervals during the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and above who have experienced at least one fall in the past six months.
Not a fit: Patients with dementia, severe psychiatric illness, or those who cannot walk independently may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce fall rates among older adults, enhancing their safety and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that dual-task training can effectively reduce fall risk, indicating a promising approach for this population.
