What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hazard perception and attention maintenance training on driving performance. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a treatment group receiving specialized training or a control group undergoing vehicle maintenance training. The study will assess driving skills through exams and track long-term outcomes using crash statistics and naturalistic driving behavior data collected via a smartphone application. The goal is to determine if the new training methods lead to improved driving behavior and reduced crash rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals enrolled in a driver training course through the 911 driving school in Washington State.

Not a fit: Patients who are not enrolled in the specified driver training program or who opt-out will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance driving safety and reduce accident rates among new drivers.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in improving driving skills through targeted training interventions, suggesting potential success for this approach.
