What this trial studies

This study involves training first-year medical residents at Hershey Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to perform central venous catheter (CVC) insertions using Dynamic Haptic Robotic Trainer (DHRT) and DHRT+ devices. The residents' performance will be evaluated through these devices, and they will also need to pass a skills assessment required by their institutions. After training, residents will perform CVC procedures under supervision, with attending physicians providing feedback on their performance. The study aims to assess the impact of this training on central line-related complications and infection rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients undergoing central venous catheterization.

Not a fit: Patients not undergoing central venous catheterization will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this training could lead to improved skills in CVC insertion, reducing complications and infection rates for patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using simulation and robotic training for medical procedures, indicating a promising approach.
