What this trial studies

This research investigates the feasibility of an inspiratory muscle training program aimed at improving the regulation of breathing during exercise in typically developing children aged 6 to 12. Participants will undergo initial pulmonary function and muscle performance tests, followed by treadmill walking trials with gas analysis. They will then engage in a 6-week home training program for their breathing muscles, with weekly telehealth support from the research team. After the training period, participants will return for follow-up assessments to evaluate the program's effectiveness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are typically developing children aged 6 to 12 years.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of neuromuscular, cardiac, or pulmonary diseases, or those with recent injuries or illnesses may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance respiratory muscle function and exercise performance in children.

How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific focus on typically developing children represents a novel application.
