What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the impact of training Dutch paramedics in an Emergency Reflex Action Drill (ERAD) for performing Emergency Surgical Airway (ESA) procedures. Participants will complete questionnaires assessing their self-confidence in executing these procedures before and after the training, as well as follow-up assessments at 2-3 months and one year later. The study aims to determine whether this training enhances paramedics' confidence in critical emergency situations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are registered Dutch paramedics who are ambulance drivers on Advanced Life Support ambulances and have participated in a two-day trauma course.
Not a fit: Patients who are medium care ambulance paramedics will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this training could significantly improve paramedics' confidence and effectiveness in managing emergency airway situations.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar training interventions in emergency medical services have shown positive outcomes in enhancing skills and confidence.
