What this trial studies
This study focuses on improving the ability of older adults to perform dual tasks, which is crucial for preventing falls. It utilizes real-life dual-task training that incorporates functional activities of daily living, rather than simulated tasks. The intervention targets older adults who are at risk of falls and aims to enhance their cognitive and motor skills through contextually relevant training. Participants will engage in activities that reflect real-world challenges they may face, thereby potentially improving their overall safety and independence.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are ambulatory adults aged 65 and older who are at risk of falls and are scheduled to receive occupational therapy.
Not a fit: Patients who are not fluent in English or have a self-reported diagnosis of dementia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this training could significantly reduce the risk of falls among older adults, enhancing their safety and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While limited evidence exists for dual-task training interventions specifically for older adults with T2DM, there is early evidence suggesting that dual-task training can improve outcomes in older adults.
