Training medical students in point-of-care ultrasound with remote supervision
Development and Assessment of a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) Low-Contact Curriculum Using Near-Peer Training and Remote Supervision
This study is testing a new way to teach medical students how to use portable ultrasound machines with the help of online learning and remote guidance to see if it makes them better at performing these exams.

What this trial studies
This study focuses on developing a low-contact curriculum for teaching point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) to medical students using near-peer training and remote supervision. It aims to address the challenges of traditional ultrasound education by utilizing portable ultrasound technology and innovative teaching methods, including E-learning and simulation. The study will assess the effectiveness of these new teaching strategies in enhancing the learning experience and competency of medical students in performing PoCUS. By simplifying the examination process and maximizing accessibility, the curriculum seeks to improve the diagnostic capabilities of future clinicians.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are fifth- or sixth-year medical students at National Taiwan University College of Medicine who are 20 years or older.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously taken a bedside ultrasound course at National Taiwan University College of Medicine may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the ultrasound training of medical students, leading to improved patient care through better diagnostic skills.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of remote supervision and innovative teaching methods in medical education is gaining traction, this specific approach to PoCUS training is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
