What this trial studies

This study aims to scale up mental health services in Mozambique by training healthcare providers, including psychiatric technicians, to deliver effective treatments for common and severe mental disorders. It will involve a two-year cluster-randomized trial across various clinics in rural, peri-urban, and urban settings to identify the most effective delivery pathways for mental health care. The study will assess implementation outcomes, service-level efficiency, and patient-level outcomes, while also evaluating the sustainability of these services over time. Additionally, qualitative data will be collected to understand the factors influencing the implementation and effectiveness of the interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthcare providers working in the participating clinics in Mozambique, including clinic directors, trainers, supervisors, and psychiatric technicians.

Not a fit: Patients who are not involved in the healthcare delivery process or those outside the participating clinics may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve access to mental health care in low- and middle-income countries, enhancing patient outcomes and overall community well-being.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in scaling up mental health services through task-shifting strategies, indicating that this approach has potential for positive outcomes.
