What this trial studies
This study focuses on enhancing the referral practices of pediatric primary care clinicians (PCCs) to improve access to parenting programs aimed at addressing behavioral health problems in children aged 3 to 8. It involves training PCCs in communication skills and providing them with a written guide to facilitate referrals to therapists. The intervention also includes a program called Empowered Generations (eGen), which offers parent training. By addressing the barriers to accessing parenting programs, the study aims to improve the overall behavioral health outcomes for children. The approach is designed to be implemented in a non-stigmatizing primary care setting.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents or caregivers of children aged 3 to 8 who have received a referral to a participating therapist from a primary care provider.
Not a fit: Parents who may pose a danger to their child or are psychologically unable to engage in the intervention activities will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve access to effective parenting programs, leading to better behavioral health outcomes for children.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited information on similar studies, the approach of enhancing referral practices in pediatric primary care settings has shown promise in improving access to behavioral health interventions.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Inclusion criteria for parent in the randomized controlled trial include being a parent or caregiver of a child ages 3 to 8 and having a referral to a participating therapist from a primary care provider. * The only inclusion criteria is that participants be a PCC who sees children between the ages of 3- 8 years old. PCCs must also have approval from their clinic to participate. Vulnerable populations will not be targeted from inclusion but may be included if they meet the previously stated inclusion criteria. Exclusion Criteria: * Parents would be excluded if there is a reasonable belief that participating could increase danger to a child or if they are psychologically unable to engage in the intervention activities.
