Tracking readmission rates after prostate surgery
Readmission Following Endourological Prostatic Surgery for Benign Prostatic Obstruction: Review of 20 Years of Experience

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to estimate the readmission rates and reasons for readmission following various endoscopic transurethral surgeries for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with urinary obstruction over the past 20 years. The research will utilize a computerized patient information system to review preoperative, intraoperative, and post-discharge data from the Urology and Nephrology Center. Follow-up visits will be monitored, and patients without hospital follow-up will be contacted for information regarding their lower urinary tract symptoms and treatment history.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are men who have undergone transurethral prostatic surgery for BPH causing bladder outlet obstruction at the Urology and Nephrology Center.
Not a fit: Patients with prostate cancer or those with lower urinary tract symptoms due to neuropathic bladder will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the factors influencing readmissions, potentially leading to improved patient care and reduced hospital visits.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on readmission rates after prostate surgeries, this specific observational approach focusing on a 20-year span is relatively novel.
