What this trial studies

This observational study aims to collect comprehensive data on all cases of diabetes diagnosed in children and adolescents under 18 years of age in Reunion Island over a five-year period. It focuses on understanding the incidence and types of diabetes, particularly the emerging cases of type 2 diabetes linked to obesity, in a region where precise data has previously been lacking. The study will involve prospective data collection from various hospitals in the region to ensure a thorough understanding of pediatric diabetes trends.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents under 18 years old who are diagnosed with diabetes while residing in Reunion Island.

Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in Reunion Island or who are diagnosed with diabetes after the age of 18 will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the rising incidence of diabetes in children, potentially guiding prevention and treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies specifically in Reunion Island, the increasing global focus on pediatric diabetes suggests that understanding local trends could be beneficial.
