Tracking care and outcomes for older adults with hip fracture across GIOG centers
Prospective Observational Study Based on a Cohort of Geriatric Patients With Hip Fracture Treated in the Centers Belonging to the GIOG Group
This project will collect care and outcome data from people aged 65 and older with femur fractures treated at GIOG centers to see if different management approaches lead to better recovery.

What this trial studies
This is a multicenter prospective cohort registry enrolling about 7,000 patients over a 5-year period with a 120-day follow-up for each participant. Participating orthopedic and orthogeriatric units will submit clinical and management data continuously or via a lower-intensity one-month annual snapshot, according to their chosen level of participation. Collected data will be compared across centers to identify practices associated with better outcomes and to guide adoption of orthogeriatric best practices. The protocol is designed to support participation by non-university hospitals through a reduced-data option while preserving longitudinal benchmarking.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 65 or older with a fracture of the femur who can speak Italian and who consent (or whose caregiver consents) are ideal candidates for enrollment.
Not a fit: People younger than 65, those without a femur fracture, non-Italian speakers, or those unwilling to provide consent are unlikely to benefit from participating.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the project could help centers adopt care practices that reduce complications and improve recovery after hip fracture in older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Similar orthogeriatric registries and co-management programs have previously linked multidisciplinary care to improved outcomes, so this registry builds on established approaches.
