What this trial studies

Participants who have osseointegrated implants and are scheduled for second-stage surgery will receive a standardized preoperative assessment and oral hygiene optimization. At implant exposure, a customized healing abutment will be placed and topical oxygen therapy (oxygen gel) will be applied around the collar according to a defined protocol. Linear and volumetric changes in peri-implant soft tissue will be measured over follow-up visits to compare healing with the oxygen therapy approach. Excluded are patients with systemic conditions or behaviors that impair healing, such as smoking or recent chemotherapy/radiotherapy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 21 or older in good general health who are indicated for customized healing collar placement after second-stage implant surgery, willing to consent and attend follow-ups, and without systemic or medication-related impairments to healing.

Not a fit: Patients who smoke, have systemic diseases or medications that impair healing, are pregnant or lactating, or have had recent chemotherapy or radiotherapy are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve peri-implant soft tissue contour and volume, speed soft tissue regeneration, and enhance long-term esthetic outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Topical oxygen therapy has shown promise in promoting wound healing and tissue regeneration in other settings, but its specific application with customized implant healing abutments in oral implantology remains relatively novel with limited direct clinical data.
