What this trial studies
This project aims to create a diagnostic tool that utilizes findings from chest computed tomography (CT) scans to improve the accuracy of diagnosing pulmonary fibrosis. The study will involve nearly 300 patients with common types of fibrosis, and the tool's effectiveness will be tested on an additional 100 patients. A reader study will be conducted with three radiologists to compare diagnostic accuracy with and without the tool. The goal is to enhance the diagnostic process for interstitial lung disease through advanced imaging techniques.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 21 years old who have a confirmed diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis based on chest CT scans and pulmonologist reports.
Not a fit: Patients under 21 years old or those without a confirmed pulmonologist report of their pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this tool could significantly improve the accuracy of pulmonary fibrosis diagnoses, leading to better patient management and outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in improving diagnostic accuracy through advanced imaging tools.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: * Retrospective review of adults (age \> 21) with diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis on chest CT and a pulmonologist report in electronic medical record confirming the working diagnosis from 1/1/2010 through 7/1/2019. Exclusion Criteria: * Failure to meet inclusion criteria including age \< 21 and lack of a pulmonologists report in the medical record with a working diagnosis of patient's type of pulmonary fibrosis.
