Time restricted eating for managing Type 2 diabetes
TRE in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (See Food Study 3)

What this trial studies
This study investigates the feasibility of time restricted eating (TRE) as an alternative to caloric restriction for improving glycemic control in overweight or obese adults with Type 2 diabetes who are treated with metformin. Participants will follow a fixed eating window while allowing ad libitum intake of their preferred foods. The study will last for 24 weeks and aims to assess the impact of TRE on glycemic measures and weight loss. By simplifying dietary interventions, the study seeks to address barriers associated with traditional caloric restriction.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are overweight or obese adults aged 18-65 with metformin-only treated Type 2 diabetes and a stable weight.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have diabetes treated with medications other than metformin, or have eating disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a more sustainable dietary option for patients with Type 2 diabetes, potentially improving their glycemic control and overall health.
How similar studies have performed: While the concept of time restricted eating is gaining attention, this specific approach in the context of Type 2 diabetes is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
