What this trial studies

Patients with second- or third-degree burns will receive either a tilapia fish skin dressing or a conventional dressing and will be followed for clinical outcomes. The trial excludes patients with first-degree burns, burn-related sepsis, prior wound-healing agents, elderly patients, and those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Clinical assessments will track wound closure, infection, pain, and any need for additional interventions using standard wound-care protocols. The study is conducted at Sohag University Hospital and compares the two dressing approaches in a controlled clinical setting.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are non-elderly patients with uncomplicated second- or third-degree burns who have not received prior wound-healing agents and do not have sepsis or chronic diseases like diabetes.

Not a fit: Patients with only first-degree burns, active burn-related sepsis, prior wound-healing treatments, or elderly people and those with chronic diseases such as diabetes are unlikely to qualify or benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, tilapia skin dressings could speed healing, reduce pain and scarring, and offer a low-cost alternative to conventional dressings.

How similar studies have performed: Small clinical series and early trials of tilapia skin as a xenograft for burns have reported promising healing and pain outcomes, but larger randomized data are limited.
